TOBAGO 2002

thursday :: 25.july.2002

We had a lazy morning after breakfast.

In the afternoon, we went down to the beach bar and grill and my cook friend helped us catch a ride so we could visit The Art Gallery somewhere in Buccoo. We went up to the road and she waved down some driver and told him we had $10TT and he should take us to Buccoo. After numerous stops for instructions (we didn't know exactly where it was) we finally got there.

The driver offered to wait for us after we asked if we could call him back or if he would return for us. We spent well over an hour at the gallery. When we had made all our purchases, we piled back into the car and asked him to take us to another gallery we had passed earlier in the day. After we took a look, we asked him to drive us back to the Inn.

Upon our return, Barb said "I guess we owe you more than $10TT..." and he said, "whatever you want to pay. I'm not a taxi driver..." Barb and I were so flabbergasted. The poor man we hijacked on the road had only wanted to make sure we got to the Gallery and that we had a good time in Tobago.

This was pretty typical in terms of how friendly and open the local people were.
