noro silk garden weaving

i pulled the loom out of the storage drawer and set it up this past weekend to begin some weaving tests. i have not done much of any weaving since my initial class with my weaving teacher but with christmas drawing near, i thought i'd better get a move on quick.

here, i played with noro silk garden as both warp and weft. my intent was a scarf which was to measure about 70 threads width and about 2 yards long.

measuring out the warp:

well, something was amiss.... it came out twice as wide and only 20 inches long. hmmm, looks like i'll need some more practice measuring out the warp.

also, this yarn is very loosely spun and very slubby. the warp began to fall apart as soon as i began to weave. i got lots of practice adding new warp threads and then weaving them in afterwards. my kumihimo weighted bobbins came in handy.

broken warp threads and weighted bobbins used to add new warp:

the colorway is amazing (thanks to noro). here are pics of the piece before washing. the color is more true on the first picture below. the last two pics came out duller than real life.
