cheryl and i went to the farmer's market down at the ferry building yesterday morning to pick up some tomatoes to go with our lettuce harvest:
we also picked up some spectacular plum apricots (plucots?), yummy indian food: naan, channa masala, pumpkin paratha and paratha dip and some beautiful flowers. we got down there around 8 a.m. and parking at the end of california street was a cinch.
i had been lusting for a way to grow fresh vegetables in the house. i finally decided to pick up an aerogarden and try it out. here's my lettuce garden after 3 weeks:
view the movie to see how it grew:
last night i reviewed my lust list from two years back and found that i could cross off everything, so now it's time to start a new one:
- 42"-50" flat panel hdtv (my old tv just died and my spare is as small as the screen on my 12" g4 powerbook)
- couch
- car (currently thinking about a toyota prius or a subaru outback)
- get down to goal weight by year end
- iphone
- new computers (one server, one subcompact notebook - apple of course - when they come out with it)
- wireless printer
- bicycle
- online backup solution (maybe something like Mozy)
each year in june, i make the annual trek to milwaukee, wisconsin -- that big bead heaven in the sky -- for the bead and button conference. i join friends (lynda and joy) and fellow fanatic bead collectors and jewelry designers to take classes, talk with nationally-known teachers, and shop like crazy. one thing we discovered in milwaukee, aside from beads, was the heavenly scrumptiousness of frozen custard. people jam themselves into small buildings and wait in lengthy lines to get themselves a serving of frozen custard.
well, after nearly a year of lusting, i broke down and bought myself an ice cream maker and recipe book. yesterday, i produced my first batch of frozen custard -- white chocolate with bits of milk chocolate covered dried bing cherries. when the churning was finally done, i put it all into a container and into the freezer to harden up. then cheryl and i stood at the ice cream maker and ate all the remaining frozen custard clinging to the freezer bowl... mmm... mmm... good!
