i felt empty after i finished it... so i quickly grabbed the kit i purchased from artfibers and have started a felted drawstring purse using Jadis (color 8) which is an alpaca/wool and Tibet, a nylon/cotton blend:

christmas 2005

we've been sick... not just piddly sick but sicky sick... worst in 5 years sick... we're getting better. my ears can pop now... i guess that's called better. cheryl didn't seem to get as sick as me. i was in bed mostly until yesterday. i can now schlep to the sofa and sit there most of the day.

cheryl managed to get the tree down from the closet and we limited decorations to one small drawer of ornaments:

we missed christmas eve dinner with the family. we spent quite a while searching the net for a restaurant which would deliver burgers on christmas eve -- no luck. we ended up calling tong kiang and ordered a whole peking duck with little buns and some chow mein. it was good. we opened gifts late last night.

here's cheryl in her new sweaters from gung and popo:

here are some movies from rainier (movies are big and loading is slow):

- vickie wishing us a merry christmas (11.1 mb)
- debbie opening her gift (antique multi-level candle holder) (17.2 mb)
- noah riding his new motorbike (from his dad) (12.3 mb)
- mom opening her big surprise from dad (6.2 mb)
- dad opening his high tech flashlight (16.5 mb)
- vickie opening her rainproof pants (12.3 mb)
- dave, mika's boyfriend, opening his leather jacket (9.2 mb)
- mika opening her bookends (14.1 mb)
- debbie, wearing a bracelet mika made her and a star necklace noah gave to her

auntie arly dropped by tonight and we exchanged gifts, so we got to open gifts again today... always so much fun...

i roasted an organic turkey and made stuffing and gravy. the turkey and gravy were fine, the stuffing was too salty so i threw it out. we ate up auntie's cookies and candies for dessert. there was no christmas cookie baking for us this year and since we didn't get out to shop for the last minute things for christmas dinner, like the side dishes and the CRANBERRY SAUCE!!!, we'll have to make up for it when we're feeling better.

knitcheck 1

joy and i spent a bit of time at artfibers this past friday. we both picked up some luscious lovelies. i fell in love with the color and texture of some sale yarn in the back room (fellini, color 11, 100% extrafine merino wool), so i ordered a custom pattern to knit up a sweater for myself (short sleeve, a-line, scoop neck).

i promised to post my progress, so here is the first. i began late friday night -- that first 1.5" of seed stitch was slow but once i moved into stocking stitch, it's been moving quickly.

crotchety

well, i'm crotchety today... i spent an hour and a half at safeway shopping, got through the line and wrote a check to pay for the groceries -- same amount as always. the cashier called the manager over and they declined my check because it was the first one i've ever written to safeway. this is true but i still haven't gotten my replacement cards (remember that TWO weeks ago i lost my wallet and reported everything as lost). the manager told me that they would only take a check for up to $25. since i only shop at safeway every five weeks or so, i had a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff in the shopping cart. the money comes out of the same account as when i normally pay with my card... it just doesn't make sense to me. i got in the car and went home -- all pissed off...

now i'm home trying to cook dinner with what i've got in the house... which isn't much.
